Premium slab furniture demands far more than pouring resin between two boards. Each piece moves through a disciplined sequence of stabilization, casting, machining, and hand finishing — most of it invisible in the final object, all of it present in how the piece feels.

Exceptional Pieces Begin With Exceptional Material
Every slab is individually selected for figure, movement, structural character, and its potential within the finished piece — sourced from premium slab yards and specialty mills across North America.
Black Walnut
Deep chocolate heartwood with occasional curl and crotch figure. The studio's foundation species.
Mesquite
Dense, warm, and distinctly Arizonan — natural fracturing that becomes drawing when cast in clear resin.
Desert Ironwood
Among the densest woods in North America. Dark, fine, and nearly stone-like under finish.
Olive
Ribboned golds and umbers with dramatic movement. Best in smaller-format statement pieces.
Maple Burl
Tight, swirling eyes and pale luminous tone — a counterpoint to darker resin treatments.
Walnut Burl
The complexity of burl in walnut's palette. Reserved for pieces that can carry it.
Buckeye Burl
Grey-blue mineral tones and dramatic voids that invite translucent casting.
East Indian Rosewood
Violet-brown depth and exceptional polish for select commissions.

Resin With Depth
Resin should complement the wood, never overwhelm it. Each pour is developed as a color study for its specific slab — tested, adjusted, and cast in controlled stages.

The character of the finished piece begins with selecting the right hardwood.

Slab orientation, river geometry, resin tone, base design, dimensions, and finishing details are established.

Preparation
The slabs are flattened, stabilized, cleaned, sealed, and prepared for casting.

The Pour
Professional deep-cast epoxy is carefully mixed, colored, poured, and cured under controlled conditions.

Refinement
The cured piece is flattened, routed, shaped, and progressively sanded.

Where Material Meets Craft
Sonoran Works began with a simple conviction: exceptional slabs deserve better than to be flattened into anonymity. The studio was built around respect for the material — for grain that took a century to form, for the fracture lines a desert climate writes into mesquite, for the way figure moves under a hand-applied finish.
Each commission is handled by the people who will actually build it. We keep the roster of active projects short so that nothing leaves the shop carrying less attention than it arrived with.

Access to Rare Live-Edge Slabs
Exceptional furniture starts with exceptional material. Our Arizona studio maintains relationships with slab yards and specialty mills that give us first access to rare, highly figured hardwood — black walnut and claro walnut, Arizona mesquite, desert ironwood, olive, and burl caps in maple, walnut, and buckeye. Every slab is selected individually for figure, movement, and structural character, so no two river tables or live-edge desks are ever alike.
Built in Arizona's Shipping Corridors
Sonoran Works is located in the heart of Arizona's major transportation network — the air, rail, and interstate freight corridors that converge on metropolitan Phoenix. That logistics access means a finished conference table or dining table can be professionally crated and delivered nationwide: by air freight when a commission is time-sensitive, and by rail or dedicated truck freight for the largest statement pieces. Clients in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tucson receive local white-glove delivery; clients across the country receive the same piece, protected and on schedule.
